Business

Communication is paramount in every business and it pays to do it well.

Whether you are communicating with clients or colleagues, NLP defines how we communicate. We often get “bogged down” in the content – the “what”. If we can listen to how people are talking to us we can make a difference. Using rapport we can work with the other persons’ model of the world.

In sales, rapport is essential. Understanding your client’s decision making strategy is of great value. Strategies allow us to understand your buyer on a deeper level, their convincer - how they need to be convinced and how to convince them.

When we were buying our car, I was sitting people watching (being nosy) and listening to sales people talking with potentially buyers. It was at the point when our sales guy was working out the numbers and I had tuned out and I heard a conversation between a buyer and a salesman.

"Well, the numbers look alright to me, I would like to have a look at the car again and see the space available."

"Certainly Sir, let’s have a walk over and get a feel for the car"

"Actually, I’ll come back later"

It took everything I have not to jump out of my seat and grab the buyer! The mismatching of predicates had turned him off.

Values are key within businesses. Especially if the person’s values are misaligned with the company, this can create apathy, stress, lack of motivation etc. 

In recruitment, it’s of paramount importance to look at the values of the company and personnel fit.  Also in recruitment, understanding of motivation strategies and metaprograms will assist in succession planning, enhance communication and enable management.

Educating Education

The use of key components can assist children. Personally I think sharing these techniques with children is a gift, I certainly wish I knew this when I was younger. Learning strategies and visualisation are key in education, along with the learning state.

We know a few teachers who use learning strategies with their pupils in assisting them with dyslexia.

"We have one girl in our year who is dyslexic in every other class except ours!"

Even the teaching of the mindset and how we communicate are of paramount importance when younger.

Sport

Nowadays athletes are considering mental strength alongside the physical. More and more you hear about top sports peoples sports psychologists and “Mental guru”.

Anchoring is used within sport – think of Tiger Woods and his red t-shirt on the last day of a competition. Sir Clive Woodward was reported to have used certain techniques within the England Rugby team, think of Johnny Wilkinson and his “Pose” before a conversion. All anchors.

We have worked with several golfers and set anchors on their golf clubs, therefore every time they use those certain clubs they are in the relevant state. Visualisation is key.
